Who are we?
We are two enthusiastic, fun-loving practitioners that have compassion and deep respect for each of our patients. With a desire to educate and to help heal, we want you to be one of our success stories!
And we have had success stories! Although this is the first clinic that we're opening with a focus on cancer, through our years of experience we have successfully worked with coughs/colds, arthritis, infertility, migraine headaches, depression, anxiety, heart disease and yes, cancer. We will continue to work with all of these conditions at the Canadian Integrative Cancer Centre, but want you to know that we're focusing on cancer care at this time because the need for the safe integration of complementary medicine with conventional cancer treatment options is astounding. And this work has become our passion. Understanding how to safely combine conventional treatments with complementary treatments is a phenomenal experience. Helping patients understand the benefits and limitations/risks of their cancer treatment choices is what drives us in our care. With so much information available to patients from the internet, newspapers, journals and media we know that patients are overwhelmed. We strive to help patients feel empowered by the knowledge of complementary medical risks and benefits that we can help provide. Using Complementary Medical choices safely can decrease side effects of conventional therapies, boost and speed healing, lift mood, improve sleep and make it possible to regain health physically, mentally and emotionally! We strive to help our patients reach these goals!
Dr. Menen, ND and Dr. Appelmann, ND are regular Board examiners for the licensing of Naturopathic Doctors in Ontario -- we test new graduates on their physical examination skills (required for licensing) and Dr. Menen also helps write part of the written examinations that are required for licensing of Naturopathic Doctors in North America.
We are Certified Laughter Yoga Leaders which means we're likely to keep good humour as part of our care for patients. Laughter stimulates the immune system, the cardiovascular system and the lymphatic system -- so we might as well start some healing while we're speaking with you!
And we're also academics. We have spent many years of study understanding health and disease in school and just as many years in actual Naturopathic practice. Below, you can read what our academic and professional experiences consist of.
